TP4056 DC-DC Converter
TP4056-based converter built for a Fiverr client, fabricated at JLCPCB.
The brief
Charging a lithium cell and then running electronics from it are two jobs that usually fight each other. The charger wants the cell connected; the protection IC wants to disconnect it the moment anything goes wrong; and the boost converter wants a clean, regulated rail across the whole cell range.
A clean power path between them — so the load never sits on the cell’s protection node — is what makes the module behave like a power supply rather than a collection of parts.
What we did
A compact battery power module that charges a single-cell Li-ion battery from USB, protects it, and boosts its voltage to an adjustable, higher output rail. It is useful for powering portable electronics from one lithium cell.
- USB charging: A micro-USB input feeds a TP4056 linear charger. A 1.2 kΩ programming resistor sets the charge current, and red and green LEDs show charging and fully charged states.
- Battery protection: A DW01A protection IC with an FS8205 dual MOSFET guards the cell against over-charge, over-discharge and short-circuit, with a dedicated battery connection (B+ and B-).
- Adjustable boost converter: An MT3608 step-up converter with a 22 µH inductor and SS34 Schottky diode raises the battery voltage to a higher output. A trim potentiometer in the feedback divider sets the output voltage, so the board can power loads that need more than the battery’s 3.0 to 4.2 V.
- Clean power path: Input and output capacitors on each stage, and separate input, battery and output connection points.
