BLE Notification Board
Minimal USB-powered board that raises an LED over Bluetooth Low Energy.

The brief
A notification board is only useful if it is trivial to build and trivial to program. Every component added is a component that can be fitted wrongly, so the design brief was really about removing things.
Native USB on the ESP32-S3 is what makes it work: no separate USB-to-serial chip, so programming is a cable and a bootloader.
What we did
A minimal, USB-powered notification board built around the ESP32-S3. It uses Bluetooth Low Energy to receive alerts and shows them on a status LED, in a compact design that is easy to build and program.
- Schematic and PCB layout: We designed the full circuit and the board in EasyEDA.
- Main controller: The ESP32-S3 module provides BLE, with native USB so no separate USB-to-serial chip is needed.
- USB-C power and data: The connector has 5.1 kΩ CC resistors and USBLC6-2SC6 ESD protection on the data lines. 3.3 V regulation: An AMS1117-3.3 LDO with input and output capacitors and a power-indicator LED.
- Notification LED: A GPIO-driven LED with a current-limiting resistor.
- Programming controls: RESET and BOOT buttons for easy firmware flashing.
